About the Jaycees
The Detroit Lakes Jaycees are a not-for-profit organization dedicated to providing development opportunities that empower young people to make a positive change. We know, that’s a loaded statement! What does that mean in every day terms you might ask?
Part One: we fundraise, but it’s not to make money for a profit. (Check out the Donations Page for more info on where the money goes)
Part Two: we want to give every interested person the opportunity to be the best and most involved and supported person they can be. We will work together to help each other achieve positive changes, in ourselves and in our community. Success in the group provides each member with confidence and provides individuals with a new support group of friends, coworkers and acquaintances.
We provide civic and individual development through:
All members have unique talents to offer and we want to make sure each member is provided an opportunity to express those talents in projects that benefit the members and the community.
Join the Jaycees today to make a difference in our group and our community.
Networking Opportunities: Ever heard the phrase “it’s not WHAT you know, it’s WHO you know”? Well, the Jaycees have connections. We know people; we are “kind of a big deal” in Detroit Lakes. Between fundraising and volunteering, we’ve been in touch with almost everyone. Let us help you meet people. The Jaycees has been known not only to produce successful business owners and prominent community leaders, but has also brought together families and friends. There is a specific “get to know you” time dedicated to each meeting, to ensure that members get the chance to do something “out of the box.” The Minnesota Jaycees provides networking on a state level, by providing two annual conferences as well as various training seminars throughout the year.
Individual involvement: It’s completely up to you as to how much time you are willing to devote to being a Jaycee. There’s no minimum meetings you need to attend or specific number of hours you need to help volunteer. BUT, we’re going to try to get you to help with as much as you can. There’s a new experience to be gained at every event, even if you’ve worked the event the last 5 years in a row. And we all know; experience helps you develop new ideas and new strategies and grow as an individual. The Detroit Lakes Jaycees are very proud of our members and our member’s involvement and accomplishments in and outside of the group.
